Where does your nickname come from?

Well I started with the most ordinary nickname : Slywarrior :D.. and joined up a team with such a big tag I couldnt my whole nickname. And every one was calling me sly back then so.. I used the first part of my nickname, and after some months I saw many people where using sly so I reversed my nickname and added a S to it.

My css game, well I was playing 1.6 back then for some unknown team. And like every other 1.6 player I disliked it, heady's coming out of nothing. And the only map available was de_dust, with nade jumps (jumping on a nade, and jump again right before it explode so you can walk over the sky. But after some weeks I liked it and I liked the scene with more normal people, no whining and no more"Look at me I am so good at cs"

Hoi Rutger! Could you please introduce yourself to our readers?

Hi I am Rutger Smeding playing for team fnatic, living in the netherlands, in the city called Groningen biggest city in the north of the netherlands. I live with my brother in an old house my dad bought us, where we have great times together with friends.

Since when are you playing Counter-Strike Source?

Since the beta, 2005?

Why did you go for Source and not another game?

Well I played 1.6 wasnt that good, and I didnt liked the game anymore (mostly scene tbh) so I went for cs:source

What was your first team? Which clans have you been part of?

My first cs:source clan was KaoS a fun team with really nice guys, xertion was also in kaos but before I was in, he was playing ravenshield or something. after kaos a lot of more clans came, Starlike,flame-instinct,team-edit,h2k (with darky), team-edit again, dcc-gaming very recently and fnatic as end station

How went your first official match in CSS?

Very well, we didnt lost much pcw's and official all went very well

A lot of players want to become professional but the dedication to the game to become pro is becoming crazy nowadays. What was your goal while playing this game?

When I started playing source after some years, 1.6 and the beta's, I just played for fun because I stopped playing 1.6 didnt liked it anymore.So I made some fun team with real life friends and my little brother and just played some fun games, and played cs:source opencup

You joined Fnatic in the past to play the CGS Qualifier since Sandor "proph" de Munck was unable to play due to his age. How did the guys contact you?

Just by msn, I already knew the guys from our rival matches on dutch lans, only weird thing was I just started playing again for fun, and they asked me.

A few days after Sandor’s 18th birthday, Quint “Blaze” Spierenburg went inactive and you were back on track in the team. Did you take it as an opportunity?

Yeah a big one, when we didnt get drafted I know I had to leave the team, and to leave friends thats always a bad thing. So its great to be back

Since you are now the official fifth player that means that you are professional gamer. How did you tell your family and how did they react?

Well they know I play games on a high level, they dont the inside story. And at the moment they dont like it because I need get some education and new hous for my little me. But I do what I want and like.

Wasn’t it too hard to join a team who played together already for a long time?

With cgs it was, because they had there band, and they experienced alot together (vivid), things that have huge impact, some band of brothers. But I'm fitting well I think, dont what they think.

How did the players welcome you a second time in the team?

Like cgs continued, with fun,sarcasm and playing some high level counter-strike source

Rutger, could you please describe each of your team mates? (you can criticize and be rude, I’ll be on your side no worries)

- AirRaid: our in-game leader like every one knows, and always making jokes, but when there are to many jokes in-game he gets angry, and focus us again.
- proph: always making stupid fun with milan (xertion), and tries to get as many fans possible
- darky: the smart decent guy, mostly calm and relaxed, but if puts his party trousers on, he is on-fire
- xertion: the good looking, chaotic fun making guy never knows whats he doing, but he is good at it.

When Luuk (darky) started CSS, he used to be trial in your team which was EDiT, if I’m right. Now it’s your turn to be in darky’s team. Isn’t he joking about that?

Its all part of my plan, planned it years ago. No, when luuk (darky) was trial in team-EDiT most of the guys thought he was hacking so we didnt want him to join. And now joining luuk's team isnt weird at all, just fun to be part of something great :)

High Level Gaming

What is your role in the team?

Well hard to tell because I am filling all blaze positions thats for the in-game part, outside gaming I am the silent relaxed guy

Could you tell us a typical day of your gaming life? Are you very organized or are you just improvising?

After my work (mostly @ 18:00 CET) and dinner I am playing some deathmatch, and getting on vent on time to practise with the guys at 19:00 cet

How could you define your game style?

Chaotic, simple and reading the enemy next move fast

What is your main aim while playing an official match?

To get enough rounds to win, and do some sick rounds

What next event are you looking forward to?

i33 always great to be in england with nice rainy weather :D, no never been at i-series, and every one told me its nice. So I want to experience it myself

According to you, what was the best moment is your “gaming career” so far? Do you think that you will have more in the future?

Best moment, first of all, there are only best moments.

And they are not in-game but outside the game, traveling with teammates just great and had enough fun while traveling.

Once when I was driving with team-edit too slap live, with my Suzuki vitara, we went to some toilet parking place. And the suzuki is having rear wheel drive, and did some burnouts (it was rainy and slippery), and some nice slides.

I drove backwards to slide again, bam, I hitted the wooden toilet house with some wooden stairs in front of.

We went as fast as possible back in the car.. and drove away, and the toilet wooden stairs , well guess they are no use anymore :D

You don’t have many rivals in Holland right now. How comes?

because my old team, team-edit, folded after to many line-up changes.

In the past it was always, syc (now fnatic team) vs team-edit in dutch lans, and after we folded not any good team in holland had enough skill to beat fnatic.

And why there arent any good teams, no idea.

Real Life

What are you currently doing outside gaming? Still studying?

Outside gaming I am working, working at call centre at the moment, and I dislike it.

Need to help people who have problems with internet,television and the telephone. No education finished.

Are you playing any sport?

Not playing any sport anymore, before gaming I was playing soccer, I was pretty good at it, but with gaming and work I dont have enough time to do some sport.

What do you think of the Dutch National football team at the moment, are you a fan as every dutchie is?

I am, like every one indeed, they are the most skillfull soccer players on this planet.

But I dont follow them that much as before when I was playing soccer myself

What kind of music are you listening to?

All kind of music, but mostly pop music, top40 and some old shit like the eagles, and dire straits

Tell us more about your hobbies.

My hobbies, well only hobby I have is going out with friends and drinking beers, and ofcourse some nice bar fights :)

Do you have a girl friend?

Yes I do, really al long story, but to be short . I am going to be a dad in septembre

Are you traveling all around the world with your caravan like everyone in our country does?

No, not with a caravan. Just sometimes with a tent and sometimes a hotel, depends on budget and willing to suffer in the fucking rain :D

The Future

Where does Source go from here?

No idea, 1.6 is still here, but I dont think source would hold that long. With the annoucement of counter-strike 2 source will go down, I dont we will have 3 counter-strike games. 2 are to many already

Do you think Source can evolve in the next 6months to a year?

Well It will bigger then last year with more big events, and 2nd season of cgs. its going to be fun

How do you see yourself in 5 years?

Hopefully with a job I like and pays enough.

What kind of job are you looking forward to?

A job I like, something with travel, music and alot fun

Do you have a goal in life, something you have to do before you die? (I can be harsh sometimes)

Well traveling through the world, being happy and just enjoy much as possible of life, with down sides and up sides.

I was hoping to be in the cgs last season, it was one dreams to earn money for something you like to do and being good at.

But thats no really possible any more, so my goal in life is having fun and do as many things possible, take every chance to do things a normal person couldnt do.
