The Crossfire Challenge 7 is just around the corner, so we here at Fnatic.com have conducted some interviews with several players. The first interview is with Rody 'DRAGZ' de Graaf.
Rody is one of the players of the Dutch TheLastResort Call of Duty 4 team and he and his team-mates are considered as underdogs for the event. He shared some words with us. Be sure to read the interview on the following page.
The TLR CC7 line-up:
- Sander 'fatal' Quaedvlieg
It is for the first time to see TLR with this line-up attending a LAN event; does that give you a disadvantage or does the "unknown factor" give you an advantage?
Well, obviously we are not really unkown players, but yes this is the first time we play together on a LAN. So maybe it's a disadvantage for us, if you look at teams that have played alot of more LAN's with their CC7 lineup.
This is the first time you are in a team that has reached the Top 10 Rankings. Does this give extra pressure?
Of course we get extra pressure, because people expect us to do well and beat the lesser teams.
The CoD4 community is pretty tight and friendly with each other at LAN. Is the social aspect something you look mostly forward to, or the competition?
Good question. I am really looking forward to meet people that I've talked with so many times online over Xfire or Ventrilo. But I am not going to LAN just to shake people's hand and say hi. I am going to LAN to play CoD4.
You have been placing pretty decent online so far, how do you think you can rank up against the absolute top?
If we play our best game we can beat everyone. I think it's gonna depend on who has the best form over the weekend.
How has your preperation been? Have you been practicing a lot of do you feel you are under prepared?
Our preperation has been pretty good so far. We had no problems at all, only Danny/DEKO trying to bait LAN because he is moving from house this weekend. Thankfully, Roy/obama is so helpful to go and help him on Thursday!
After defeating Team Thermaltake in the playoffs of the CC7 Seeding Tournament, you have now been given a top seed. Will this make your road to a top placing much easier?
Yes, a top seed gives you the advantage of not getting the "top" teams in the groups. But still there are a lot of good teams around who can suprise!
Do you think this online event has given an accurate seeding?
The idea is good, but still it is online. I mean, Fnatic vs infinity 9-13. I don't see that happen on LAN.
How would your top 3 look like, based on the results of the last few months and leaving out yourself?
#1 Fnatic (dominated last summer)
#2 Dignitas (5 sick players with alot of experience)
#3 Power (amount of practise)
With what result would you make the TLR management happy? And what would be a sufficient placing according to you?
With a top 8 finish. When we play our best game we can end up higher.
At LAN events there are always upsets. Who do you expect to do well and who do you think will fail to impress?
Reason, YYT, NCE and H2k will do well and i think they are capable of beating Power, Dignitas and Fnatic. Teams who are gonna fail are infinity skills, mTw and team thermaltake.
The Benelux scene has been struggling for some time now, but with TLR racking up good results and the MCA team forming, do you think the scene is going back uphil? Any chance for CoD4 in the EPS Benelux?
The Benelux community is really going uphill. The community is pretty big but the amount of talent is not that high. Dutch LANs like the Reality with 700 people attending had a full CoD4 Tournament with 32 teams.
Some people have done a lot of work to get CoD4 EPS in the Benelux, personally I think it is going to happen. The EAS Benelux is pretty active with 31 teams.
Thanks for your time, any last words you want to add?
First I want to thank our sponsers; The Gaming Collection, Icy Box, Keysonic, VeryGames, Zowie and Pixaweb. A lot of love to Michael Robinson and the whole TLR team. See you Thursday in Enschede. And last but not least I want to thank you for the interview:D!
