I'm participating in the Hello, Goodbye SC2 tournament hosted by randomKo_Orean of Teamliquid.net, with approximately $1200 of prize pool, making it absolutely the first "BIG" Starcraft 2 event in the world! The tournament features 128 players, some of the very best in the world: IdrA, Louder, Artosis, Nony, Smuft, Legionnaire, etc... and of course, me representing FnaticMSI :)

The tournament is split into 8 "groups" of 16 players each in a bracket style, I am placed in Group 4 alongside other famous players like Psyonic_Reaver, Legionnaire, and the recent TSL champion and former progamer, Nony. You can check out my group below:

Round 1 vs Keleios (PvT)

In the first round I faced off against a pretty strong Terran user. The first game I attempted my warp gate rush (see previous blog for details on the strategy) and I was shocked to find that it failed! In almost 30 games I've used it, that strategy only failed 2-3 times at most. Starting off a BO3 series 0-1 is rough, especially in the first round of a major tournament... I had to pick up my play if I wanted to take down the win.

The second game I decided to play a more standard match. I opened up with a 1 gate robotics, and he decided to rush me. It was a tense situation for a minute...

Luckily my immortal came out in time and I was able to fend off the bunker rush and push him back out of my base.

I kept massing my units and finally decided to push out. I noticed that he was taking an expansion and making several bunkers at his front, so I utilized the big rock blocking the 2nd ramp into the back-end of his base, quickly destroyed it and walked into his main base where he was totally undefended. That was able to secure me the win and tie the score 1-1!

In the third and final game, I opened with my same 1 gate robotics build, but I noticed that he was going for a marine heavy army and forgoing marauders, so I decided to change up my build: I quickly put up two more gateways and a support bay for Colossus

I knew my plan would work (observers are super important in PvT), with my observer hanging out at his natural, I saw him placing bunkers and preparing to expand.

When my first Colossus came out I knew it was time to attack, if the Terran secures his expansion and can begin to macro off two bases I would be in trouble, so I pushed in and went for the kill. Luckily my unit mix and decision to change to Colossus worked very well.

I broke into his main base and was able to take home the win 2-1 and advance to the Ro64! So I feel pretty nice about these wins and I'm looking forward to the next round. Wish me luck!
