LoL Server Split tonight

LoL Server Split tonight

With an expected 12 hours of downtime, thousands of players will be eagerly waiting for the split to be complete. The split was announced a few weeks ago, giving time for the community to discuss and ask questions. Since the announcement, the competitive scene has had to decide which server to make their home. With teams such as FnaticMSI.LoL having players from each region, it was a tough decision, but seeing as most of the other competitive teams are heading to the Western Server, it seems that this will be the more popular server.

This is a big move from Riot Games and there is a lot counting on this split being a success. Hopefully everything goes smoothly and then all tournaments such as Go4LoL, 4PL and GYX Champion's League can continue. Teams have been on a somewhat break recently due to most tournaments being paused until the switch is complete. With this being said, it seems that the break is nearly over and we can expect all the action to continue very soon.

With a lot of discussion coming from the competitive scene, FnaticMSI.Mellisan has given a statement regarding the split:

Despite the unfortunate split of the European Community, I'm pretty happy to see it finally happening. The ongoing server problems in the last weeks, made playing tournaments as well as some casual gaming hardly enjoyable and hopefully not only login queues, but also the problem of europeans constantly playing on NA servers with high latency, will be fixed. So far I'm unsure on how it will effect the competetive scene, the majority of competetive players will move West anyways, so I see a chance maybe more eastern teams will form and follow up.
