Asus ROG Summer 2012

As my first LAN event for Fnatic I'm playing the Asus ROG summer 2012 tournament. 32 of the world's best players battling it out for a prizepool of $30 000. The format which is being used at Asus ROG summer is the same as the GSL format. So if you lose two matches you are out and if you win two matches you are trough to the next groupstage.
As some of you may know my groupstage went terrible, my first best of 5 was against the korean Terran Taeja. I lost game 1 in less than 8 minutes which obviously didn't make me feel really confident. Game 2 however I played a lot better and I even had a lot of opportunities to end the game in my advantage, sadly I might a lot of small and big mistakes (nerves?!) which lost me the game after 32 minutes of intense action. Game 3 Taeja started out with a proxy marauder reactor hellion all-in. I held it off quite easily without losing more than 4 probes, however he did delay my nexus quite a bit. So when the follow-up 1-1-1 hit I wasn't ready at all and lost the game.
The second series of the groupstage was against Protosser a zerg player from Finland. I practice with him quite a bit and when we play we are at least even, so I thought this would be either a 3-2 in my favour or a 3-2 in his favour. Sadly this isn't how it went at all. Game 1 I tried to 7gate all-in him, but because of bad pylon placement he scouted it really early and reacted accordingly. Game 2 I took a 7:30 3rd base, I defended it really well, but when I decided to move out with a small squad to kill my opponents 4th base I somehow managed to get 2 immortals and sentries isolated from the rest of the army. He killed them without me getting anything in return. From here on out the game was basically over and five minutes later I had to tap out: 0-2. The third game of the series I went for a pretty early third base again and this time I didn't lose 2 immortals so I was in for quite a bit longer, sadly I misread what my opponent was doing so I went with templar tech instead of colossus tech. I tried to do a max push with High templars, stalkers and immortals, but after 3 waves of zerglings all my hightech units were killed which left me with stalkers and zealots only who got cleaned up by the fourth and final wave.
The Fnatic guys
Even though I'm out early I still am enjoying the tournament, a contributing factor is that Moon, Nightend and Naama did get trough to the second groupstage. I still have people to cheer for and I try to help them in every possible way. Moon played some close series against both welmu and bisch which nearly gave me a heart attack. The same for Naama, his best of fives against huk and Seiplo almost made me cry from happiness when he did actually manage to win. Nightend's games were a bit more boring in that way, he made beating sase and beating puma look like stealing candy from a five-year old. I hope they do as well today as they did yesterday!
The analysing table
After being knocked out I wanted to do something besides practicing, so I asked one of the admins if I could do some analysing. He said he would look into it and 30 minutes later I sat myself down next to 2GD and Soe. I watched the Nightend vs Puma games and when Nightend destroyed puma 3-0 it was my turn to shed some light on the last game from that series. I tried to be as clear as possible and point out mistakes made by both players. I felt like it was a lot of fun and if possible I will certainly do some more today (preferably some Protoss vs Protoss match).
I will continue updating this blog from the venue as me and Naama are about to leave. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Fnatic for sending me there, even though I didn't do well I am learning so much by talking to other players and I am having a great time. So thanks to Raidcall, MSI, Steelseries and Eizo for giving me this unique opportunity to play this game for a living.
