Introducing: Niclas "PlesseN" Plessen

On the 8th of April 2016, we announced a temporary lineup change as Olof "olofmeister" Kajbjer requires time off for his arm injury. In his stead, we bring in a young recruit by the name of Niclas “PlesseN” Plessen. Hungry to prove himself, it is a very rare opportunity for young players to join a team of this caliber, as there’s skepticism in the community about whether or not a new recruit can fill the shoes of the best player in the world. Plessen knew the Fnatic players back when he was an active player himself and has recently come back into the CS:GO scene where he frequently plays in the FPL with top tiered members of the scene. Today we sit down with Plessen as we discuss his opportunity to play in the best team in the world, his past before Fnatic, and what his plans are after Olofmeister recovers.
Welcome to the team! You’ve received the opportunity to play in the position of Olof "olofmeister" Kajbjer for the time being due to his injury. How do you feel about playing for the best team in the world?
It feels great. I’m going to do everything in my power to play the best I can in the position.
You’ve mentioned in your statement that you’ve played since you were 9 years old. How long have you been a fan of esports and wanted to be a part of it?
I have been a fan of esports for a long time, ever since I first started playing CS:GO with my friends for fun. After a while, I realized that I was getting better and better at the game and I started watching esports tournaments to grow even more.
What was your relationship to the team prior to being picked as a sub?
I began to get to know the guys in the team when I started playing in a gather channel where many good and famous 1.6 players played. After CS:GO had been released for two years I stopped playing because I lost the motivation to play and therefore lost quite a lot of friends, such as JW, Dennis, Flusha and OlofMeister. I don’t really remember if I knew Krimz but I know that I didn’t know Vuggo at all. In 2015 I came back and started playing again and saw that the Faceit Pro League had come out. I thought that maybe now was a great time to start pushing and try to get into the FPL. When I came in, I wanted to see if they still recognized me from before, and they did.
The scene is full of talented players but they generally get separated into “roles”. What roles have you previously played? What do you see yourself capable of in the future?
In the past, I have been playing a lot as an entry fragger and I really enjoy that role in the game. I would love to grow in the role so I can get even better in the future. Otherwise, my secondary role in the past has been rifler. That’s something I feel like I can grow into as well in the future.
There will always be criticism when you’re playing in the shoes of one of the best players in the world, does that skepticism give you the hunger to prove yourself?
Yes, of course, the criticism gives me hunger to show the scene who I am and what I can do. It has always been a part of me and has followed me since I started playing.
Will you strive to continue your professional Counter-Strike career after Olofmeister’s injury has healed? Is playing for Fnatic the opportunity you were looking for to start that career?
Yes, I will continue my journey and try to be the best one day. It’s what I always wanted to be and I’m just so thankful to Fnatic for giving me the opportunity to play for them and show the esports community and other teams what I can do.
While most players go through years of being in the competitive scene before playing under the banner of one of the best teams in the world, the young recruit still has his future ahead of him. What a way to start the CS:GO competitive scene than to learn from the best, and we extend our warmest welcome to Niclas "PlesseN" Plessen and wish him the best in Fnatic!
