China Top 2016: Interview with GOLDEN
Posted 2016-12-16 Steff
Our CS:GO Academy team has landed in Shenzhen for the China Top 2016 event. They will face off against home teams VG.CyberZen and FIVE, as well as MVP Project from South Korea.
It's been a while since our brand has been playing in a CS:GO event in the region, our Academy boys are excited and up for the challenge the Asian teams present. It's a rather unique tournament with only 4 teams taking part, however, it's bound to be an exciting one as we see a clash of the western and eastern CS:GO styles.
During Day 1 we caught up with our in-game leader Maikil “GOLDEN” Selim to talk about the event, the teams and the recent sound update in CS:GO. Check out the interview below and follow all the action from China with our coverage hub.
Today you get underway in Shenzhen for “China Top 2016”, how are you guys feeling ahead of the tournament?
We are feeling great actually, the jet lag has not been hard as we thought. We have good mindset coming into this tournament.
What are your expectations as team for this event, you’ve had some strong results at Predator Masters and ESWC, do you see yourself winning this one?
We have had a upstream in our development as a team and inviduals. We came into ESWC and Acer Predator masters as underdogs and performed beyond everyones expectations. That gave us a big confidence boost coming into this tournament and we believe our chances are high to win.
This event is a long way from home, how have you guys adjusted to the time schedule and the environment in china?
We adjusted to the local time in Shenzhen very quickly and feel no jetlag. We like the food and don't feel like outsiders, people here are very friendly.
Let’s talk about the teams attending this event, have you had much time to study the other squads?
Our Coach Samuelson has studied all the teams because we didn't know who we were going to face in the first round and we feel prepared. The Asian teams have strategies that are unexcepted and they setup traps. Out of nowwhere you see 3 people stacked up on a position that you would normally never see in the western cs.
Who do you see as your biggest threat at the event?
Our biggest threat is VG.Cyberzen, they recently played WCA finals and lost against Epsilon. So they are definetly a strong opponent.
As in-game leader, what are your thoughts on the current map pool for CS:GO? Are there any maps in the current rotation you’d like to see removed from competitive play?
The Map pool is good except Dust 2 and Nuke should be removed and add inferno back in the pool. And a new Map would give the competitve CS scene a new meta. Or just fix/optimize Dust 2 and Nuke.
What are your thoughts on the recent sound update to CS:GO? Which version are you currently using in-game?
I was so hyped when the new update came out, the HRTF is good but it's not good enough yet it still need some fixing, so I am still using the old sound system.
Any final comments?
I would like to thank everyone in Fnatic and the sponsors, also the Chinese event organisers for giving us this big opportunity.
