Day 1 of the MSI BEAT IT tournament in Beijing has come to an end and despite some unforeseen delays plenty of thrilling matches in both CS and WC3 took place. FnaticMSI journalists Joshua Towers and Danijel Remus takes a good day/ bad day look at both games.

It’s been a good day for Lions.

The newly recruited Swedish side of Lions have been involved in a turbulent past few weeks; namely their saga with Dutch organisation H2k Gaming. However this has certainly not affected their performance when coming into the event over at Beijing.

Of all the teams in the undoubtedly stacked Group A, Lions were certainly one of the bookies favourites to progress to the knockout stages. Despite this, the Swedish side showed no remorse in their matches, brushing aside the Aussies of Immunity and continuing the trend versus the Indian side of ATE-Gaming.

The side did encounter a small stumbling block against the Korean roster of WeMade FOX in round 3, where the unpredictable Asian team closed a draw against Bjorn ‘threat’ Pers and co. However, the Lions returned to former glory defeating both wNv Gaming and Evil Geniuses in comfortable style in their final 2 rounds, finding themselves top of Group A.

It’s been a bad day for wNv Gaming.

wNv Gaming is the first of three Chinese teams competing in Beijing this weekend as part of the MSI BEAT IT tournament, and unfortunately they left no lasting impression on the event, and undoubtedly a sour taste for the admins.

The wNv roster were initially drafted in to replace the amateur-dramatics wannabe team of compLexity (or more so a few individual members), but soon the Chinese caused plenty of drama for themselves, when the first round of Group A rolled around this morning.

It all started quite smoothly whilst playing Evil Geniuses for wNv, that was until half-time, and more specifically the following pistol round, where 2 members of the Chinese roster were seemingly disconnected from the match server mid-round, while being 10-8 down.

While the details are still not completely known, rumours are circulating stating that the members in question disconnected on purpose to force admins to restart the match. Ultimately their plan (or not as the case may be) did not work in their favour, and after much deliberation the wNv players forfeited the game, awarding all 16 rounds to the American’s of Evil Geniuses.

This move proved fatal for the Chinese team, and they are now sitting second from bottom in their group; definitely a bad day for wNv Gaming.

It’s been a bad day for ATE-Gaming.

No one really knew what to expect from the Indian side of ATE-Gaming coming into this tournament; it’s very hard to gauge how a team of unknown quantity, who have never competed against International challengers will fair against the likes of Lions, Evil Geniuses and WeMade FOX, arguably some of the world’s finest. Alas, now we know the answer: not overly fantastic, to put it bluntly.

On the bright side, the Indian team did manage to steal 7 rounds off of WeMade FOX, Immunity and wNv Gaming. Collectively however, ATE-Gaming found themselves on an impressive -52 round difference when the doors finally closed on the MSI BEAT IT tournament, late into the night. While this was nowhere near to the closest opponent’s round difference, the side had shown that they can play and compete in Counter-Strike to a relatively high level; granted, not the levels of either Lions of Evil Geniuses, but still enough to cause and upset given the opportunity.

Bad day for Grubby and Fly100%

The best orc players in the world along with Lyn, have dropped out of the tournament after only two best of three matches played. Not long ago, Fly100% played against TH000 in grand finale of G-League where he defeated him 3 to 1 to put the champion's crown on his head and win the prize.

Today, it was a revenge day for TH000, as these two players met in the first round of the tournament. As he displayed some great performance earlier, Fly100% had slight advantage in the eyes of the community but the human player stepped up and made an upset. Fly100% was to meet Sai, and everyone thought he will have "easy" time passing first round in the loser bracket, but Sai, who was defeated by Moon in the upper bracket, came out victorious after 2 maps, winning 2 to 1 which meant Fly100% is on his way home.

Grubby, the only European at the event, had very high expectations but things didn't work for him very well, as he experienced the same destiny as Fly. In the first round of the winner bracket, he lost to Infi, 1 to 2, and then by the same result he lost to Remind.— Danijel Remus, Today 1:18 PM
