Upset signs for Fnatic
Elias “Upset” Lipp has joined Fnatic League of Legends as our new bot laner on a three-year deal, pending Riot Games approval.
Upset joins from Astralis (Origen), where he has been a regular in the LEC since November 2019. Previously, Elias has played for Giants Gaming, Schalke, as well as a stand-in period for G2 Esports.
The 20-year-old is considered one of the most sought-after young talents in the LEC. After discussing our options with the players and fellow bot lane partner Hylissang, Upset was our top target to fill the ADC role.
Hyli said: “I'm really excited to play with Upset. He’s one of the few AD carries that can match my playstyle, and I can't wait to see how we’re going to work together on the Rift.”
Since 2018, Elias has finished second in both the 2018 Regional Finals and 2018 Summer Playoffs, losing to G2 and Fnatic in those finals respectively.
As a player, Upset favours marksman champions. He played 15 of his 48 games in 2020 on Aphelios, and averaged 6.41 KDA across all champions. In 2020 he was named in the 2nd All Pro Team, only losing out in the bot lane spot to Rekkles.
Javier “dardo” Zafra said: “I’m so excited to bring Upset to Fnatic. He’s shown he is consistently one of the best ADCs in the LEC over the past two years, and his combination of ambition, personality and talent will make him a great fit for our new roster.”
In his own words...
On joining Fnatic: “It’s a dream come true. I’m super excited to start playing with the team.”
On partnering with Hylissang: “I always loved playing with Hyli. He’s always looking for opportunities, so I can just focus on my own game. I’m really excited to be honest.”
On the fan response to Rekkles’ departure: “I know you were surprised or sad that Rekkles left. I really hope you guys put your trust in me - I trust myself that I’ll be able to perform. Maybe you’ll start smiling again when you see me and Hyli play together”
