Bwipo Enters The Jungle
Fnatic League of Legends top laner Gabriël “Bwipo” Rau will be role-swapping to jungle for the upcoming 2021 LEC Summer Split, filling the spot formerly occupied by the departed Oskar “Selfmade” Boderek.
Since joining Fnatic in 2018, Bwipo has made a dominating and aggressive style of play his signature and has helped set the tempo of our games from the difficult top lane position. Now unleashed on the jungle role, we believe he can use his natural instincts for action and impact in a new, crucial role.
The idea of Bwipo re-rolling to a jungler has been discussed many times in the past few years. These discussions have taken place not just with Bwipo himself, but with coaches, management and the wider playing staff who all believe in his ability to perform in this position.
With Adam joining the team as our new top laner, our coaching and management staff considered Bwipo’s move to the jungle position as the best option for the team in this upcoming split. Once the opportunity was presented to him, and following the agreement of the team, it was the decision of the coaches to replace Selfmade with Bwipo this offseason.
As part of our offseason plans, we have also brought back to the Black and Orange strategic coach Kevin “Shaves” Tolman. Shaves has worked with Bwipo on an individual basis for many years, and has supported this role swap as a way to unlock Bwipo’s natural talents.
As we look to the future of Fnatic League of Legends and the arrival of Adam, we’re happy to have found a solution to keep Bwipo’s experience and chemistry with the team. The coaching staff made the decision that made the most sense for everyone for this upcoming split, and we look forward to seeing where it takes us in Summer.
Bwipo is an extremely intelligent player, and will undoubtedly be able to use his knowledge of multiple roles in League of Legends to develop his jungle playstyle very quickly. He has all the right ingredients to be a success in this upcoming split as a jungler.
Bwipo’s natural fit for the role was seen last split, where he performed one of the most eye-catching plays in our LEC game against G2, using his Volibear ultimate to take out former Fnatic botlaner Rekkles in a crucial team fight.
We look forward to seeing what Bwipo can do in his new role. The jungle has never been wider.
